Thinking Thursday: What the Bible Says About Jesus

Some facts about Jesus:

  1. Jesus existed before the world began – John 17:4
  2. He created all things – Col.1:15 & John 1:3
  3. Jesus is called God – Isa.9:6 & John 20:28
  4. The Bible teaches that no-one has seen God at any time (John 1:18) but there are several instances of people who did see God (e.g. Gen.32:20) – it was God the Son they saw. We know what the sun is like through its rays of heat and light. Likewise we know what God is like through Jesus.
  5. Jesus’ coming was predicted. One day God would come in the person of his servant – Isa.7:14
  6. Jesus is called Emmanuel – God with us – Matt.1:23
  7. Jesus is Prophet, Priest and King: Prophet speaking for God – Heb.1:2, Priest mediating to God – Heb.1:3, King ruling as God – Heb.1:8

Titles of Christ:

  1. Son of Man – Mk.2:10; Matt.20:28
  2. Son of God – Rom.1:4; 1 John 5:13-20
  3. God – John 1:1, 18; 20:28; Heb.1:8; Titus 2:13

  5. Lord (Yahweh) – Acts 10:36; John 1:23; Rom.10:9
  6. Servant – Isa.49:6; 52:13; Acts 3:13,26
  7. Messiah (Christ) – Acts 2:36; John 20:31; Matt.16:13-20

The Incarnation – God in a human being:

  1. The word became flesh and lived among us – John 1:4
  2. He shared in our humanity – Heb.2:14
  3. He appeared in a body – 1 Tim.3:16
  4. The Son of God became the Son of Man so that sons of men could become sons of God – Matt.16:13; Gal.3:26-27

Jesus was fully God and fully man:

  1. To know Him was to know God – John 8:19; 14:7
  2. To trust Him was to trust God – John 14:1; 12:44
  3. To see Him was to see God – John 14:9; 12:45
  4. To welcome Him was to welcome God – Mark 9:37
  5. To hate Him was to hate God – John 15:23
  6. To honour Him was to honour God – John 5:23

About Ann Marie Thomas

Married since 1974, Christian since 1986, 4 children, 4 grand children, disabled with fibromyalgia but was working almost full time until a stroke in May 2010 changed my life completely. Writing poetry and making up stories since I was a child, I only started to write seriously when my children were grown. My main ambition is to write science fiction, but along the way I got distracted by local history and poetry about my stroke. Taking early retirement gave me the chance to concentrate on my writing. My book, Alina, The White Lady of Oystermouth, was published in print and ebook at Easter 2012. The success of Alina led to the publication of Broken Reed: The Lords of Gower and King John in September 2013, and The Magna Carta Story at Easter 2015. I am still writing science fiction - a series of novels called Flight of the Kestrel. For all my author news, see me author blog at www.annmariethomas.me.uk
